Communications

Telephone

Mobile phone service in Moldova is excellent. There are three mobile operators: Moldcell, Orange, and Unite. It is very easy to buy pre-paid SIM cards for each operator’s network. SIM cards are available at operators’ stores throughout Chisinau, where you can also easily purchase a mobile phone. Pre-paid phone cards are available at operators’ stores or at almost any kiosks on the street, and also outside of the city. Phone credits can also be purchased at electronic kiosks at various points through the city. Public fixed phones are also available at various points in Moldova; most require the use of a calling/telephone card.

Internet

Moldova has some of the fastest internet speeds in the world. Most hotels, restaurants, and cafés in Chisinau offer free Wi-Fi connections, with or without passwords. Many of the major parks in Chisinau are also hotspots, including the Cathedral and Stefan cel Mare parks in the city center. Connectivity drops once outside the city, but hotels and restaurants may be connected. Alternatively, the three mobile operators sell pre-paid mobile internet packages.
